Submarine USS Hampton arrives at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard

Nuclear-powered attack submarine USS Hampton arrives at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

The USS Hampton has arrived at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for maintenance.

The nuclear-powered attack submarine with a crew of 130 cruised into the harbor on Wednesday.

The Los Angeles-class attack submarine had been in San Diego after returning from a 41,000-mile deployment in March. The type of maintenance being performed in Portsmouth typically takes 20 to 22 months.

It’ll be at the shipyard for 22 months for an engineered overhaul.

The ship is the fourth to bear the name Hampton. It was named for four different Hamptons – Hampton, New Hampshire; Hampton, Virginia; Hampton, South Carolina; and Hampton, Iowa.
