AMITS SIGN CONTRACT WITH THE DUTCH NAVY

On the 10th Aniversary of its incorporation Gosport based Advanced Marine Innovation Technology Subsea Ltd (AMITS) proudly announces that the Royal Netherlands Navy (RNLN) has become the launch customer for its new generation escape system valves.

The RNLN Walrus class submarines will be retrofitted with this new equipment. The contract has been achieved through the HABETaS consortium. Within the consortium AMITS provides the control valve system and the German submarine builder HDW effects the adaptation of the submarine to install the system. The third member of the consortium, Ballonfabrik Augsburg, the manufacturer of the escape suits has recently been acquired by the Survitec Group and the suit manufacture is now centred at RFD Beaufort in Birkenhead.

HABETaS is an international consortium and the the UK provides a major proportion of the system.

In 2006 HABETAS carried out successful testing of the air system in Malmo, Sweden. This was witnessed by an international audience who were very impressed with the results. The following stills give an idea of the level of testing; contact Ramsey Martin at AMITS for full test and technical information.

A new DISSUB hero is about to be launched – Welcome the new Sub Mk3P!

On 30th July 2021, Analox will be proudly introducing the new Sub Mk3P DISSUB monitor to the submarine escape and rescue community.

The new Sub Mk3P DISSUB monitor

Feedback provided from submariners about the Sub MkIIP have helped shape the Sub Mk3P into a unit that is more reliable and easy to use than before.

Key improvements include:

We recognized your need to maintain the unit in the field, saving you money and product downtime, so now you can! Swapping out old sensors and calibrating the unit can all be done by you.

Changing the batteries on the Sub MkIIP risked damage to the internal circuit board. Now you can access these batteries externally, eliminating that risk.

You can select how the gas measurements are displayed offering you extra flexibility and the ability to choose which readings are best for you.

To discuss your interest in the new Sub Mk3P, contact:
Kerry Day on +44 (0)1642 711400 or email kerry.day@analox.biz for more information.

Dry Ice & COVID-19 How Analox are protecting those who are protecting us

After the news that vaccine trials have been successful in the fight against COVID-19, the world is now waiting in anticipation for the roll
out to begin and for us all to get back to some kind of normality.

One vaccine in particular caught Analox’s eye, the Pfzier & BioNTech vaccine.  For this vaccine to remain stable in storage and in transport it needs to be kept at extremely low temperatures. This can be done by using dry ice.

Analox shortlisted for Best Factory Awards

Analox have been shortlisted for the prestigious Cranfield School of Management’s 2016 Best Factory Awards.

The Best Factory Awards are designed to celebrate and promote the best that UK manufacturing has to offer.

The categories Analox have been shortlisted for are Best SME, Most Improved Plant and Best Electronics & Electrical Plant.

The awards programme is in its 25th year and is open to any UK based plant (large or small).

The award winners are selected by a team of assessors led by Professor Marek Szwejczewski, Director of the Best Factory Awards, from Cranfield School of Management.

The selection process consists of two distinct stages. The first stage is based on an audit questionnaire completed by each participating organisation. The best factories identified by analysis of the questionnaires are shortlisted for consideration as prospective category award winners.

The shortlisted plants are then invited to participate in the second stage of the competition, which involves a plant visit by the team of assessors.

During the visit the assessors meet with management and the workforce and tour the site.

Once all of the factories have been visited, the winners are selected for each category, and one of the category award winners is chosen as Factory of the Year.

Winners for this year’s awards will be announced on Friday 14 October at a ceremony being held in the National Motorcycle Museum and Conference Centre near Birmingham.

Emma Harbottle, Operations Director, Analox, said: “Being shortlisted is fantastic news, and is a reflection of all of the great work everyone has been doing. Our company has grown so much over the past few years and we are always striving to continuously improve. I’m looking forward to finding out the results in October.”

Analox Military Systems attend SMERWG as primary sponsors

Analox Military Systems (AMS), attended the NATO Submarine Escape and Rescue Working Group (SMERWG) in June as primary sponsors

Vicky Pigg, Sales and Marketing Director, and Jo Burke, Key Accounts Manager, attended the event which was held in Portsmouth from 7 to 10 June, with an official industry reception on 8 June.

The event brings together submarine operating nations and industry, and encourages the development and implementation of military standardisation within the global Submarine Escape, Rescue and Abandonment (SMERAS) community.

This includes, but is not limited to, techniques and training methods, presenting and recommending new equipment and communications related to submarine emergency situations.

The industry reception was first set up in 2005, and is now an established part of SMERWG, after it was identified that there was a need for industry to be available at this event to assist with technical issues which were being raised during conferences.

115 delegates from 23 countries were in attendance at this year’s event, and the industry was represented by 19 companies including JFD, Sonistics, Babcock and Marine Rescue Technologies.

Vicky said: “We were proud to be a primary sponsor of SMERWG and it was great to see it so busy throughout the duration of the event.

The four days in Portsmouth gave us the chance to network with several nations and discuss the status of the industry.

We understand that atmosphere monitoring requirements may vary for different types of submarines, so we demonstrated a range of our fixed and portable devices, as well discussing our capabilities in designing bespoke solutions to meet specific criteria.

There was some interest in our products including our central atmosphere analyser (AA) that monitors up to 30 gases from various locations, our distributed atmosphere monitoring system and the Sub MkIIP.

We’ve identified some great key opportunities where we could assist with gas detection solutions, including future boat designs to help improve the welfare and safety of the crew.

The big fat Analox review of the year

Xmas 2015

Getting in the Christmas mood at Analox!

2015 has nearly gone – and there are only eight working days until Christmas Day. We hope that you’ve got your Christmas shopping sorted… if not, Analox products are still available from your friendly local distributor.

2015 has been a busy year for us and the keyword throughout has been ‘growth’. We’ve seen new products, new distributors and an increase in staff and profits, making Analox more of a force to be reckoned with than ever before.

Come with us as we carry out an Analox review of 2015 and see what’s planned for 2016…

Great use of our products

We received fantastic news at the start of the year when we found out our The McDonald’s Corporation approved our Ax60 carbon dioxide detector for use in restaurants across the world – from the UK to Peru. At the end of November, the first Ax60 was installed in China by Bonny Foodservices.

We supplied our friends and longtime distributors JFD (formerly Divex) with SDA rate of change monitors for a new build vessel for the BP Exploration Shah Deniz II project in the Caspian sea. We visited the team at JFD in Aberdeen in November and it was great to see them doing well.

Celebrating profits

We celebrated our best month for sales output in April – and then in July we celebrated again when we found out we beat that record!

Pizza Loco board

In mid-December we announced that we were over full-year target for invoiced sales, with two weeks of the year left to go.

We’re looking forward to seeing if we can beat our records in 2016

Around the world at exhibitions

We’ve been racking up the air miles at different exhibitions this year, covering a wide range of industries – from laboratories at ArabLab in Dubai and VWR in Norway (the first time we’ve taken part!) to scuba diving at DEMA Show in Florida.

Analox at DEMA show

We will confirm exhibition dates for 2016 soon and we will let you know about them on this blog.

Hello and goodbye

We sadly said goodbye to our Sales Manager Holly in August, as she went to University. However, we welcomed our new Sales Manager Katherine who has fitted into the team very well.

Our marketing department increased this year with the introduction of three new team members who have been hard at work promoting the work we do. We also welcomed an administrative support assistant and a content writer too.

Christmas 2013 photo

There has been a massive amount of growth in Analox this year in general – at the start of the year we had 54 staff.. at the end of the year we will have 73!

Our team have been hard at work inside and outside of the organisation too – with the highest participation in charity days so far. This year we went to help out at the Cornshed Festival, SARA Animal Shelter and Saltholme RSPB Sanctuary, where we discovered a very rare caterpillar!

The Analox team hard at work at Saltholme nature reserve

New products and technology

We launched the Ax60k in late summer, a compact version of our Ax60 gas detector, used to monitor CO2 in small restaurants and fast food kiosks.

Ax60k

We’re also getting ready for the launch of medical gas detector AMEGAS in 2016 – a modular system which can be used to measure a range of gases and adheres to stringent Pharmacopoeia standards.

This year we have also been looking at ways we can use modern technology to showcase our products. We’ve been trialling Augmented Reality (AR) technology at exhibitions, as well as looking at how we can use holograms and Virtual Reality in the future.

What’s planned for 2016?

There will be a few changes to the way we work in 2016 – from January our sales force will be divided into regions, meaning that you will have a designated contact in the sales team and we will be able to offer you an even better level of customer service.

We’ll also be rolling out our new branding ‘Why Analox?’ which details some of the challenges we’ve undertaken and why our customers have stuck with us so long… there’ll be more details on this blog early in the new year.

We’ll also be introducing our new price list system known as ‘Catbase’ – we hope our new system is easy to use and gives our distributors and customers the information they need at a glance.

With all this in mind there’s only one thing left to say… we hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a fantastic New Year, and we’ll see you all in 2016!

SAMAP celebrates 10th Conference and 21 year anniversary with Analox Military Systems

Group of SAMAP delegates

SAMAP delegates at the end of the symposium

[09/11/15] As a prime sponsor of this year’s Submarine Atmosphere Monitoring and Air Purification Symposium (SAMAP) Analox Military Systems (AMS) were proud to be a part of the 10th anniversary conference celebrations held in Den Helder, in the Netherlands.

The Symposium provides the opportunity for industry, government professionals, and experts, to discuss the latest technologies and developments surrounding submarine environments. It allows delegates to attend conferences and hold debates on what is deemed acceptable across all aspects of Submarine Air Monitoring and Air Purification. The conference gave us a platform to present the concept of a joint enterprise between AMS and ACI (Atmosphere Control International). Research has been conducted into developing a concept that will see a significant step in the automation and control of a submarine atmosphere, with the potential to ultimately pave the way for a fully automated, Holistic Atmosphere Management System (HAMS).

Members of our AMS team attended the 4-day conference and joined in the celebrations. An anniversary cake was presented to the organisation team and delegates. This year’s conference was described as ‘vibrant and much information was shared.’

Vicky Pigg, Sales and Marketing Director for AMS said, “The symposium this year was extra special as it marked a significant year and celebrated the work conducted by the event so far. We’re very proud to be a primary sponsor of this conference as it’s a crucial event in our business calendar.

“Important and varied topics were discussed and debated during SAMAP concerning medical and physiological research, studies conducted around monitoring submarine atmosphere’s and the international space station, Contaminant hazards and numerous atmosphere purification techniques.

“The conference allowed us to present a paper in conjunction with ACI (Atmosphere Control International) on integrated atmosphere management, offering a complete solution to submarine atmosphere control.

“It was important to mark this significant milestone and celebrate the history of SAMAP and we look forward to attending this important event again in 2017.”

Excellent performance levels have earned Analox Military Systems the SC21 Silver Award, an award until now held by only 26 British companies.

Analox Military Systems (AMS) has been recognised for delivering 99.8% of orders ‘right first time’, and 97.8% ‘on time’ to its customer base over the last 12 months.  Additionally, high scores in Business Excellence and Manufacturing Excellence assessments, together with a strong commitment to continuous sustainable business improvement, has ensured the company achieved this recognition.

AMS joined the SC21 programme – a military-led change programme to accelerate UK supply chain competitiveness – in December 2010, and has since worked consistently to implement improvements throughout the company.  The Silver Award has been given to the company only a year after it earned the SC21 Bronze Award.  It will be presented to AMS in July at Farnborough International Airshow 2014 by ADS, the premier trade organisation for the UK Aerospace, Defence, Security and Space industries.

Craig Baker, Quality and HSE Manager at AMS, commented: “To earn the SC21 Silver Award has required significant commitment to improving every area of our business.  Everybody in the company has delivered their part of this to enable us to meet these targets, which we are delighted with.

“Our achievements in the SC21 programme are recognised in the UK military sector, and are helping us to win commissions.  Overseas clients may be less familiar with the scheme, but appreciate the levels of achievement we have shown, and so our reputation as an exporter continues to grow.  Also, the initiatives to achieve this have been implemented throughout the whole Analox group.  As a result, they are helping us win business in every commercial sector we serve, as well as with military clients.”

Having successfully earned the SC21 Silver Award, AMS has now adjusted the company’s objectives, with the aim of securing the SC21 Gold Award within two years.  The SC21 Gold Award requires performance levels in excess of 99% ‘on time’ deliveries, and more than 99.9% of orders ‘right first time’.  To date, only two British companies have earned the SC21 Gold award.  Craig added: “Achieving the high levels of performance that the SC21 Gold Award demands has always been our goal.  It would be a huge challenge for any SME, but at AMS we have the foundations in place and everyone, from directors down, is committed to continuing our improvement each day.”

NEW PARTNER OPENS UP CHINA’S MILITARY MARKET

A new distribution partnership has been agreed to increase the sales of Analox Military Systems’ products in China.

Analox Military Systems (AMS) has signed a distribution agreement with Beijing Huaputai Science & Technology Co Ltd of Beijing, China.  Beijing Huaputai is an established supplier to China’s medical markets, and is currently expanding its client base to include the country’s military sector.  It has, in recent years, ordered a number of AMS’s products.  Now with this distribution agreement in place, it is looking to build the military element of its business portfolio.

Mr YongChao Yu, General Manager of Beijing Huaputai, commented: “We were keen to work with Analox Military Systems.  The products constantly receive excellent feedback, the staff are highly skilled and professional and the customer service and after-sales support are also exemplary.  Now we are formally an Analox Military System’s agent in China, we are putting our efforts into substantially growing this area of our business.”

Jo Burke, Account Manager for Analox Military Systems, added: “This is an exciting opportunity for Analox Military Systems.  We have no established contacts within the Chinese military, and this agreement opens up a new marketplace for us.  We have known Beijing Huaputai for a few years, and have built up a strong relationship.  With this partnership now formalised, we are confident that this will prove successful for both companies.”

Beijing Huaputai will now market two of AMS’ products designed specifically for military markets, the Sub MkIIIF Hyperbaric Atmosphere Monitor and the Sub MkIIP analyser.  The Sub MkIIP is a compact analyser which provides submariners with key decision making tools should they ever find themselves in a DISSUB or ‘distressed submarine’ situation.  It is the only analyser on the market which meets the current NATO requirements for atmospheric monitoring equipment located in submarines with an escape capability (STANAG 1320).  The Sub MkIIIF is a hyperbaric atmosphere monitoring system, capable of measuring oxygen and carbon dioxide levels, pressure, temperature and relative humidity, and is ideal for use in hyperbaric chambers for diving and for monitoring the atmosphere within Submarine Rescue Vehicles (SRVs).

The Nautilus LifeLine Marine Radio can alert boats within 10,000 square kilometres, and incorporates GPS which can locate the radio to within a five metre radius.  The radio does not rely on satellite or relaying of messages, making it the most reliable marine rescue radio available.  Each radio can be assigned an individual MMSI number, so rescuers know which individual has been picked up.  With the lid on, the military version of the radio can be submersed to 700 feet underwater, while the commercial version is damage resistant to 425 feet.  With the lid off, the unit remains waterproof for 30 minutes in a depth of up to three metres.

The features of the Nautilus LifeLine Marine Radio include a five year battery life, and, if infrequently used, the requirement to charge only every six months.  The unit, which is charged via a USB cable, requires little maintenance, and can still send out GPS location alerts when the battery is down to 40%.

ANALOX MILITARY SYSTEMS LAUNCHES TWO NEW PRODUCTS AT DSEI

Contact: Emma Hignett on +44 (0)7968 409803

Analox Military Systems will be launching two new products at the world’s largest defence and security exhibition in London in September.

Analox Military Systems (AMS) is exhibiting at DSEI for the first time.  A number of staff, including the AMS design team, will be present on stand S9-494 throughout the exhibition.

At DSEI, AMS will be introducing its new portable ACG multi-sensor gas analyser for the monitoring of compressed breathing air.  The portable ACG is, by design, more flexible making it suitable for use on submarines, on operations or trips, and enabling divers to check their compressed gas fill at any location.  AMS will also be launching the new carbon monoxide monitoring system designed for submarines.  This new product has been developed in response to submariners’ gas analysis needs.  The Norwegian Defense Logistics Organisation (NDLO) has already placed an order for this system for the Norwegian Navy’s six ULA-class submarines.

As well as launching two new products, AMS will have its design team at the exhibition, allowing visitors to discuss their specific requirements.  They will also have on the stand the full range of AMS’s ‘off-the-shelf’ products developed for military theatres.

Vicky Brown, Sales and Marketing Director of AMS, commented: “We are looking forward to exhibiting at DSEI for the first time this year.  It is the ideal opportunity to launch our new products.

“DSEI brings together the global defence and security industries.  With our design specialists at the exhibition, we want to give industry representatives the opportunity to discuss their gas analysis issues, so we can then investigate the best possible response. Whilst we have traditionally worked with Navies, we are looking forward to speaking to those who work in land and air military theatres too, with a view to answering their gas analysis issues also.”

NEW NORWEGIAN MILITARY CONTRACT FOR ANALOX MILITARY SYSTEMS

03 July 2013

Analox Military Systems has been awarded a contract to supply the Norwegian Navy with carbon monoxide monitoring equipment for its fleet of submarines.

AMS has signed a contract with Norwegian Defense Logistics Organisation (NDLO) to supply the Norwegian Navy with two carbon monoxide monitoring systems for each of its six ULA-class submarines.  AMS will undertake the development, manufacture, installation and commissioning of the system, with the first due to be delivered in February 2014.  AMS is working with Hakon Rygh, its Norwegian Distributor, on the installation and commissioning phase of the contract.

Vicky Brown added: “We’re very proud to be supplying the Norwegian Navy with gas analysis equipment.  Historically, CO monitoring has been problematic for submarines owing to the presence of hydrogen. AMS’s new system uses an accurate infra red technique and as a result is not sensitive to hydrogen, giving the submariners confidence in the accuracy of the monitoring.”

Commander Baard Gjerstad, Project Manager Submarine Projects for NDLO, added: “We needed equipment which would not be affected if hydrogen was present, and Analox Military Systems is able to deliver systems which meet this specific need. We are looking forward to working with AMS on this contract.”

The submarine is a unique environment with people living and working within a confined space.  It is therefore essential that the atmosphere is carefully managed at all times to limit exposure of the crew to potentially harmful substances.  Carbon monoxide (CO) is one of those substances, typically produced during cooking, incomplete combustion of the diesel engines, or by fire. It is essential that the crew are able to protect themselves from this silent killer. Analox Military System’s new carbon monoxide monitoring system, which is designed specifically for submarines, will be officially launched at DSEi in London in September.  DSEi is considered the world’s leading defence and security exhibition running from 10 to 13 September.

This contract win is announced as Analox Military Systems (AMS) introduces a new project manager, Michael Davison and seeks to expand its engineering team.

Vicky added: “Analox Military Systems continues to grow; we are expanding our team and boosting our engineering capability.  This contract win, and the growth of our team, is testament to the commitment and hard work of everyone at AMS to ensure that we deliver not only world-class products to our clients, but also unbeatable through-life support. Most military platforms have operational lives of 25 years plus, and as a result we need to ensure our equipment is designed and supported to last.”

AMS KEEPS DIVERS SAFE AS THEY FILM GIANT SQUID

Analox Military Systems (AMS) has supplied gas analysis equipment to an ambitious project which has provided the first ever film footage of a giant squid in its natural habitat.

AMS, which is based in Stokesley, North Yorkshire, supplied Sub Aspidas to monitor the atmosphere inside the submersibles used in the project, ensuring safe conditions at all times for the crew and scientists on board.

Footage of the giant squid will be premiered in Discovery TV’s Monster Squid: The Giant is Real on Sunday, 27th January, 2013 (8pm ET/PT).  Discovery Channel joined forces with NHK, Japan’s public broadcaster, to organise the project to film the creature, which has to date only been captured in still photographs.

The submersibles used for the project were organised by Mark Taylor of Manned Sub International, who has worked with AMS for a number of years.  More than 55 submersible dives were required and more than 285 hours underwater, some at depths greater than 3,000 feet.  Two deep sea submersibles with panoramic views were used to film the giant squid.  Mark commented: “The Giant Squid has never before been filmed in the deep, and it has been thrilling to work on this project.  Thanks to AMS and the Sub Aspida, we have been able to ensure everyone in the submersibles has been safe from potentially harmful gases at all times.”

Vicky Brown, Sales and Marketing Director for AMS, said: “This was an ambitious and exciting project, which has proved amazingly successful.  Mark’s expertise made sure the dives were conducted safely.  He is a great supporter of AMS and our gas analysis products, and we’re delighted that the Sub Aspida has played a part in this ground breaking project.”

The Sub Aspida is a portable dual gas monitor which detects both high levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) and low levels of oxygen (O2) in the air inside the submersible.  It is used to alert the crew to changes in the atmosphere which could cause injury to those working in the submersible.

ANALOX MILITARY SYSTEMS SHOWCASES THE SC21 PROGRAMME

A year after it joined the SC21 programme – a military-led change programme designed to accelerate UK supply chain competitiveness – Analox Military Systems is inviting other manufacturers to learn from its experiences.

Analox Military Systems (AMS) and MAS, the Manufacturing Advisory Service, are inviting North East manufacturers to an ‘Industry Best Practice’ day at Analox HQ in Stokesley on Thursday, November 17th, 2011. This is an opportunity for any manufacturer supplying the aerospace, defence or security sectors to understand how AMS has used SC21 as a structured business improvement process.

AMS joined the SC21 programme in 2010. SC21 (National Action Plan for 21st Century Supply Chains) was launched in response to international competition and the challenges posed by the defence industry strategy. Aerospace and defence industries acknowledged that competitiveness relies on rapid improvement in the effectiveness of supply chains, ensuring faultless products and on-time delivery. The programme also recognises the need for competitive solutions for customers whilst maintaining profitable and healthy growing businesses in the supply chain.

Since joining the scheme, AMS has devised a continuous sustainable improvement plan (CSIP) to improve its business practices – this plan now drives every strategic decision within the company. This, together with the company’s high achievements in ‘delivery right first time’ (DRFT) and ‘on time in full’ (OTIF) figures, will form a significant part of future award applications within the SC21 scheme.

Mark Lewis, managing director of Analox Military Systems commented: “We are a small organisation of fewer than 50 staff, and in this way comparable to many other suppliers in the North East. During the event, we’ll have the chance to explain our rationale for joining the SC21 programme, our experiences of the programme and the benefits. We’ll also discuss the challenges which are unique to smaller organisations. For any company considering SC21, this is an ideal opportunity to learn about the Scheme from a company that has put it in action.”

DUTCH NAVY ENDORSE ANALOX SUB ASPIDA

A year after the Royal Netherlands Navy began using portable gas analysis equipment from Analox Military Systems, it reports that crew are ‘enthusiastic’ about the units.

In summer 2010, the Royal Netherlands Navy took delivery of a number of Analox Sub Aspida portable gas analysers, capable of detecting both carbon dioxide (CO2) and oxygen (O2) in the submarine atmosphere.

Lt Cdr Jos Bogaert of the Royal Netherlands Navy reported that the Analox Sub Aspidas have been in use for more than a year on three Walrus class submarines. He commented: “The crew is very enthusiastic about the analysers, finding them easy to use and reliable. Despite 12 months use on submarines, no unit has suffered any damage.

“After a year, the units were removed for recalibration, a process so straightforward that an apprentice completed this for us. We’re pleased to say that the units are now back on board for another year.”

Vicky Brown, Sales and Marketing Director – Analox Military Systems, said: “The Dutch Navy came to us looking for reliable gas monitoring equipment which was portable and robust enough to withstand operations on board a submarine. The Sub Aspida is ideal, easy to operate and simple to recalibrate ensuring safe operating conditions for the submariners at all times.

“This is innovative technology and we’re delighted that the Royal Netherlands Navy have found it ideal for their purpose.”

For use within Submarines

By combining the pressure sensor, the Analox Sub Aspida is the only monitor which automatically corrects O2 and CO2 readings in relation to changes in atmospheric pressure, resulting in a more accurate and trusted reading. This prevents spurious alarms caused by pressure variations typically found on board submarines.

For use within decompression chambers

The Analox Sub Aspida is also ideal for use with portable decompression chambers, where it can be mounted on the control panel and provided with a pressure reduced sample line from inside the chamber. An oxygen-only monitor is available, suitable for use with Air Diving systems.

The Sub Aspida offers audible, visual and vibrate alarms. Where silence is vital, the audible alarm can be disabled. To ensure its practicality the unit is easy to use, rugged in design and comfortable to wear. It offers 12 hours of battery life from one charge and can also be powered by a 9 volt DC supply. The software enables easy configuration, calibration and downloading of data and also ensures optimum performance of the unit by informing what maintenance is required and when.
