LACK OF SPACE DOESN'T SPOIL THE 2010 NATO SMERWG

Not only was Industry crammed into the bar area of The Netherlands military establishment in Amsterdam but the tables were then re-claimed by the catering staff to display the lavish buffet!

Undeterred, Industry breathed in and hosted one of the best Industry Receptions given so far.  There were 20 companies represented - all appropriate to SMERWG and each with a unique selling point to offer.  Two new Submarine Escape Suits were launched together with a new portable monitor from Analox Sensors.  Saab Seaeye participated for the first time and coped admirably with the lack of space.

NATO SMERWG

The NATO Submarine Escape and Rescue Working Group (SMERWG) is the authority for ISMERLO.  All submarine operating nations are strongly recommended to attend.  SMERWG covers technical and procedural issues concerning all aspects of the subject with the aim of sharing information and establishing mutually accepted standards for design and operation of SMER systems.  This is also a forum wherein problems are briefed, exercises and their lessons learned discussed, and invitations to attend or observe those exercises are made.  It is a gathering of the principal experts in this field and is an opportunity to establish contact with them that is unmatched. 

With the exception of rescue operators, this conference is not accessible to contractors unless they participate in the Industry Reception which is historically held directly after day two of the conference.

INDUSTRY SPONSORED RECEPTION

Once again the Industry Reception was a great success and we have to thank the catering staff at the Edelweiss Lodge and Resort for providing an exceptional buffet and a bar which lasted for nearly four hours - a record!

Many thanks to LtCdr Jos Bogaert's wife Nellie for her help with serving the Cider Aperitif to delegates as they arrived and for generally keeping us all laughing throughout the evening.  Thank you to all the contractors who made this event enjoyable and informative.
